Mysteries of the Bible: Prophets [VHS] Review
I purchased this video for my adult women's Sunday School Class. It served as a great way for them to get an overall view of The Prophets. It does not deal much with the Minor Prophets, but does cover most of the major prophets very nicely. The scenes shown in Jerusalem were very nicely worked in with paintings of the old Masters. There were comments from Theologians (both Jewish and Christian) about the lives of the prophets, their calling, their ministries. The scripture references were wonderful additions to the film, and the scene of Elijah being taken up in the chariot and throwing his mantel to Elisha was wonderfully moving. The music fit in very well also. The only problem I had with the video is a statement made by one of the Jewish Theologians who commented that Christ was not the Messiah spoken of by Isaiah, however my class understood the reasoning concerning such a statement from the perspective of Judiasm. Overall I felt the film was very helpful as a visual discussion starter as we began our study of the prophets. Delve deep into the origins and enigmas of the scriptures with this groundbreaking program from the acclaimed MYSTERIES OF THE BIBLE;. They stand among the Old Testament's most commanding and confounding figures: the prophets, men consumed by visions and prophecies said to have come directly from God. Their names and stories have resounded through the ages. The ecstatic voice of Elijah. The apocalyptic messages of Ezekiel and Daniel. Jeremiah's haunting vision of the fall of the Holy Temple. Did these legendary figures exist, and what was the cause and meaning of their proclaimed divine possession? From Amos and Hosea to Isiah, meet the Bible's most legendary prophets, witness their spiritual awakening, and see what became of their immutable prophecies of rapture and wrath!
